Castles of Scotland Preservation Trust
he Trust was established
to promote and encourage the protection and preservation of Scotland's rich
architectural heritage and to restore as much of it as possible. Although
the Trust operates as a company, it is a charitable organisation registered
in Scotland whose directors and secretary give freely of their time and expertise
in the running of the Trust. Liberton Tower is the Trust's first completed
project. It has received great acclaim from many sources including the coveted
Europa Nostra Award.
Liberton Tower
iberton Tower dates from
the late 15th century but was abandoned in the 17th
century, thereafter being used for many purposes including a pigsty. However,
it remained almost untouched throughout the centuries and still possessed
many of its unique features when it was acquired by Castles of Scotland
Preservation Trust, who lovingly and meticulously restored this piece
of Scotland's past. The old stone-paved courtyard and well were discovered
during the restoration and a new wooden stairway was erected on the outside,
leading from the old courtyard to the original entrance into the great hall
on the first floor.
he Tower is ideal for that
special self-catering holiday in a unique atmosphere - be it a family holiday,
a honeymoon, a romantic weekend or just a chance to stay in a castle and
be king and queen in your own special way! Dine by candlelight at the great
hall's 17th century laird's table, sleep in a four-poster bed or an old-fashioned
box bed, curl up by the large open fire in the great hall or just admire
the splendid views of the City from the parapet walkway - do your own 'thing'
in your own way!
iberton may also be used
for small conferences, board meetings, etc. and has a very capable and friendly
custodian living nearby who is available for advice and assistance.
